Working for a peaceful world

The Peace & Justice Network of San Joaquin County (PJN) is a local grassroots educational non-profit, based in Stockton, in the Central Valley of California. We have been working on issues of peace, justice, and a healthy environment for over 20 years. To that end the group publishes a newspaper, Connections, hosts two cable television shows; Talking It Through and The Reality Show, sponsors the local Earth Day, the Peaceful Holiday Fair, and other events. In September '05 we opened our new Peace Center which is giving us a much more visable and active presence in our community. We also encourage people to educate themselves with a variety of points of view and news beyond the mainstream.

Upcoming and Ongoing Events

Annual Fundraising Campaign
Friends of Peace and Justice,

It's 2010 and we are in the middle of momentous change. Global problems are trumpeted; solutions are muted. We have a great opportunity ahead of us - the mobilization of community action.
In many ways, solving our local problems through community mobilization builds our strength to tackle global problems and through the understanding built by working together can we discover the commonality of our future.
Today, information we receive has never been more plentiful - or more suspect. When scientific fact becomes equated by many to conservative religious beliefs (climate change and evolution, to name two), our media has been compromised. Balanced reporting has come to mean merely quoting two opposing views - with little context or background. And yet, decisions we make today in virtually every aspect of our lives - based on that media - will affect our very existence on this planet. Access to basic factual information will be vital in the coming years.
As part of the greater community for the past 30 years, the Peace & Justice Network of San Joaquin County has raised an awareness and understanding of important issues. Through sponsorship of our Connections newspaper, Talking It Through television program, the Peaceful Holiday Faire, PJN website and the Earth Day Festival (last year celebrating it's 21st birthday), we have been informing you on: Peace Issues - Environmental Concerns - Human Rights Violations - Local Issues - and - Access to Alternative Media. Now, we are launching a radio station - casting the net ever further. The consistent theme is education - the basis for all sustainable change.
We are asking for your involvement in our educational mission. The misinformation machine arrayed against our efforts is strong. Yet, in the age of an infinite Internet, we can remain informed by our own reliable and decentralized local media. Rather than relying on the single voice of outside "experts," we can look at multiple sources and decide for ourselves.
Your contribution in this effort is critical; it needs to be on-going and resilient. Our financial needs are small - our entire budget is less than $50,000 - and the loss of our voice to this community would be deeply felt. We all feel the current economic hard times; we need to pull together in strength. Your contribution of $35 - or more - or less - will help keep us alive.
We sink or swim together; let's keep on swimming.
